«US strategy in the post-Cold War world resulted in less US interest in the region, although it did facilitate some cooperation with Russia and other Arctic nations. While relatively low on the US agenda at the turn of the millennium, US attention on the Arctic started growing toward the end of the George W. Bush presidency. In US policy, many priorities remained stable, at the same time as new policy dimensions emerged, related to the possibility of higher levels of human activity in the region, given the melting Arctic icecap.»
