«The previous Catalogue was issued under the care of my predecessor, Sir F. Pollock, Bart., in 1888, since which time the number of works in the Club Library has considerably increased. In preparing the present Catalogue, the general arrangement adopted in 1888 has again been followed. Publications of Alpine Clubs appear under the name of the Club in the first portion, where the various Clubs come together under the heading ‘Alpine Clubs.’ Certain works published, apparently, under the auspices of, but not by, a Club, appear under the name of the author.»
